The golf course renovation at Vestavia Country Club is the culmination of four  years of planning, design and engineering.  The work has been completed by

Lester George, a current member of the Board of Directors of the esteemed American Society of Golf Course Architects.  George has completed many nationally and internationally recognized renovations and restoration of

historically significant courses.  These graphics represent plan views and perspective views of some of the proposed new holes.

Based on numerous and extensive interviews and focus groups made up of Vestavia Country members and staff, the process revealed the shortcomings of the current golf course and provided the Long Range Planning Committee and the Board of Directors with clear objectives of the Master Plan.  Themes

of design have been consistent from the beginning, members wanted better turf variety, sustainable maintenance practices, greater course strategy, more playable (fun) golf course and a course that would attract new members while being an enhanced experience for existing members.  Course strategy, safety, rhythm, balance, aesthetics and drainage were key elements of the design review.  Creating better practice facilities, adding multiple teeing grounds, rebuilding greens and bunkers (all past their life expectancy) were all identified by members as needing improvement.  Repairing failing systems such as pumping, irrigation, paths, storm-water retention, cart storage, power line relocation and sanitary sewer efficiency were also necessary.

In the end, the proposed design yields a Par 71 golf course that anticipates meeting the needs of every skill level and should attract beginners as well as good players of future generations.   This project will efficiently meet current and future expectations without jeopardizing the Vestavia Country Club identity.  Once completed, the renovation of the golf course will provide years of enjoyment and retain member loyalty at Vestavia Country Club.
